my approach
personalized to your needs
What works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another. We’ll need to collaborate to figure out what works for you. And that means that your curiosity, openness to trying things, motivation, ideas and insights are just as important as what I bring to the table.
Counseling is a relationship, and I will always respect you as the best expert on yourself. I’ll also try to help you think outside the box, try new things, and see yourself from different angles. The more we can collaborate together, the more we can accomplish together.
In my counseling practice, I use evidence-based practices from many forms of counseling to address your specific goals and needs. We may use talk therapy, ecotherapy, body awareness, creative and expressive arts, spirituality, role play, self-designed ritual, and guided visualization to help you make peace with yourself and your past, so that you can move forward with grace and understanding.
deep tools
We have foundational experiences throughout our life that shape who we are. Our responses and strategies are products of what we’ve learned—from our families, from our relationships, from our teachers and mentors, from social and cultural icons, from books and movies, and even from plain old trial and error. If a tool worked, we kept using it. Sometimes, it even saved our lives.
Some of those tools and strategies are healthy and helpful—let’s celebrate those as your strengths.
Some of those tools and strategies may have become roadblocks: numbing out, hiding your authentic self, overachieving, trying to maintain control, isolation. They’re probably why you’re here, so you can update them.
But in order to develop new, more effective strategies, you need to address the old ones. That means looking at yourself with compassion and understanding. It means comprehending the need behind the behavior. It means getting a closer look at who you are and how you work. It means exploring how your experiences are encoded into your body.
holistic perspective
I see you as a whole person, and I also see you as part of a bigger picture, one that includes your community, your culture, and the moment we’re living in. All of it matters. All of it is welcome.
I also see you as a dynamic and unique individual, not as a problem to be fixed. My approach is strengths-based and creative: it addresses mind, body, emotion, and spirit. I think in systems, so I see all layers and facets of a person’s life as interconnected.
Balance and integration are keys to growth and healing. Therapy can give you space to find what balance and integration look like for you at this time in your life.
